UPDATE: Funeral Details See:
It is with deep regret that I must inform you of the passing of our Chief Executive, Ian Grooby.
Ian and I had been together for part of yesterday (Tuesday) dealing with Crane Association matters. He flew back to Wellington last night, jumped into his car at the airport and proceeded to drive home to his wife Robyn. On the drive home, he's apparently collapsed and been involved in a Road incident. No one else was involved in the incident.
Sadly Ian died at the scene of the accident.
Please join me in passing our sincerest condolences on to Robyn and their children.
Over the next couple of days I will make suitable arrangements for the magnificent work that Ian was busy with for the Crane Association, to continue.
No doubt there will be the odd hiccup here and there, until a new Executive Officer is appointed and fully settled in. Please bear with me and the Council in this respect.
Ian has been our steadfast and most capable leader for 17 years now and was due to retire pretty soon. Our heartfelt appreciation of his exemplary service to the Crane Association of New Zealand goes out to Robyn, on our behalf.
President, Crane Association of New Zealand
