What does the Crane Association Do?

The Crane Association of New Zealand Inc is the national trade association for companies that operate or hire cranes and offer ancillary services relating to the crane industry.

The Association acts as a conduit between the members, the regulators and the training providers to provide leadership in crane industry best practice. It facilitates the highest standards of workplace safety, and promotes the premise that all crane operators must be trained, competent and are qualified on the equipment they are operating in the work environment.

To achieve this, the association works closely with its members, the government departments and agencies, Industry Training Organisation (ITO) as well as other associations and stakeholders.

Membership

The Crane Association maintains close working relationships with Government Agencies and Local Authorities as well as establishing strong commercial arrangements with leading suppliers to the transport industry. This provides members with the advantage of the combined purchasing power of the Associations members.

If you own a business that operates , hires or owns cranes of any type and size we will be able to help you, either through our commercial partnerships or by giving you access to the very best advice and support.

Crane Association Commercial Partnerships

The combined purchasing power of our membership results in great savings to members.

The Crane Association has formal preferential supply arrangements with the following companies.
  • Fuel discounts through: Caltex/Z. Caltex/Z has now updated their card system with a new Z Business card, which you will be able to use at both Caltex and Z outlets.  This is good news as it opens up the network to our respective members using the Caltex Star card and/or Z Business Card. Purchases made using Z Business Card at Z branded service stations and Caltex branded service stations are eligible to receive the:
    • Fly Buys Offer
    • Airpoints Offer
Points are accumulated at an Account level and there can only be one Loyalty Number for each account.
  • Specialist insurance provider Marsh Insurance who understands the niche crane industry market and provides first class insurance programmes designed for Crane Businesses.

Lobbying and Advocacy

Lobbying is an important part of the Association's role, supporting members and the wider crane industry to function safely and efficiently.

The construction sector contributes significantly to New Zealand's GDP and the majority of construction projects rely on cranes being available.  The importance of cranes to the construction sector amplifies our voice and allows us to effectively lobby local and central government.

Current Lobby and Advocacy Work

WorkSafe NZ
  • Licencing of High-Risk Occupations
  • PECPR (Pressure Equipment, Cranes and Passenger Ropeway Regulations 1999) replacement
