Notice is hereby given pursuant to Section 8.4 of the Association’s Constitution that the Annual General Meeting of the Crane Association of New Zealand (Inc) for 2026 is to be held at the association’s annual conference.
Time and Date: 1:00 p.m. on Thursday 23 July 2026
Venue: Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre,

We encourage all members and prospective members to attend. The agenda and meeting papers will follow in due course.

ACOP Consultation: Identifying H&S roles and responsibilities on a residential construction site

WorkSafe has released a draft ACOP, for Identifying H&S roles and responsibilities on a residential construction site. It is now open for consultation. Read about it here.
Right now, it does not properly cover crane and lifting operations — despite these being some of the highest-risk activities on site.
This matters because:

Fill out the WorkSafe form and on the second page, copy and paste the 'Key Submission Points' text detailed below. If only CANZ submits, it’s one voice. If many of you submit this will genuinely makes a difference.

Paragraph / Section: Section 3.4 / Figure 2
Issue: Delivery roles not reflected in contracting chain
Comment: The ACOP should reflect real construction practice by including merchants/suppliers and delivery companies (including HIAB operators) as part of the contracting chain, recognising them as PCBUs with overlapping duties and influence over how work is carried out.
2. Planning for deliveries before they happenParagraph / Section: Section 5.2 Planning site safety
Issue: Delivery activities not clearly included in planning
Comment: Planning should explicitly include how deliveries will be carried out, and ensure delivery companies are provided with sufficient information in advance (e.g. access, constraints, delivery location) so they can plan their work safely.
3. Coordination when operators arrive on siteParagraph / Section: Part C – Coordination (Section 12)
Issue: No recognition of need to confirm or adjust plans on arrival
Comment: The ACOP should recognise that residential sites are dynamic and that coordination may be required on arrival to confirm or adjust plans, with input from a competent person, to ensure risks are effectively managed.

This forum marks the start of a new sub-committee focused on supporting and strengthening truck loader crane operations across the industry. It’s a chance to be part of shaping practical guidance, training, and resources—right from the ground up.

New constitution confirmed and adopted
31 March 2026
CANZ has now adopted a constitution in place of its former rules, effective as at 31 March 2026. The constitution is a required document for the association to continue to operate under the Incorporated Societies Act 2022, which you can read more about HERE. The constitution was formally adopted by members at a Special General Meeting which took place on 30th March 2026.
The constitution is available for download HERE and is now the governing document of the Crane Association of New Zealand, and applies to all members.
